Megaliths: the mystery of the stone giants

In Southeast Asia, North Africa, Spain, the coasts of France and England and in many other places towering strange construction of the huge boulders. Scientists call them megaliths. It’s a giant, roughly-worked blocks of stone weighing several hundred tons. The megaliths or standing separately from each other, and then they are called menhirs, or form complex structures – dolmens and cromlechs. Giant blocks are not fastened by any cementing substance, but they are so carefully fitted that they cannot put even the blade of a penknife. On the mystery of megaliths scientists struggle for a very long time, but the basic questions still remain unanswered.

Undeciphered inscriptions

It is noticed that the megaliths tend to be sea coasts, and the farther from the sea, the smaller buildings. The most famous megalithic monuments located near the French town of Carnac on the southern Brittany coast. The main attraction of Karnak is a huge megalith, bearing the name of St. Michael. According to researchers, this structure initially served as a burial vault.
